Nora Volkow (b. 1956) is the great-granddaughter of Russian revolutionary lead Leon Trotsky.  She is currently serving in the United States government as the director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).  She is well known for her work in psychiatry and clarifying the mechanisms of drug addiction in the brains of addicts; therefore distancing addiction from the realm of moral deficiency to on of a pathological condition.
