Lieutenant Europe served in the trenches and led patrols, but was soon posted to the rear areas to entertain the troops and Allies; his crack band almost single-handedly introduced jazz to a wide-eyed Europe, and was rapidly imitated by two or three other black bands in the AEF. They played both jazz and traditional airs, along with war songs of their own composition. FUCK. YES.
